Prof. Tan Wenchang worked in Shandong Province Information Center from 1991 to 1994 and was named as a computer software engineer. In August 1999, he was appointed an associate professor of the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences of Peking University. From October 2002 to August 2004, he was a special researcher at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Japan at Kyushu University in Japan. In August 2004, he was appointed professor and doctoral tutor of the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences of Peking University. In March 2006, he served as a professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Technology, School of Engineering, Peking University.

谭文长教授于1991年至1994年被任命为计算机软件工程师，在山东省信息中心工作；1999年8月任北京大学力学与工程科学系副教授；2002年10月至2004年8月在日本九州大学的日本促进协会担任特别研究员；2004年8月任北京大学力学与工程科学系教授、博士生导师；2006年3月，任北京大学工程学院力学与航天技术系教授、博士生导师。
